While stitch markers are necessary tools, that doesn’t mean they have to be bland. They can be fun and functional!
If you’re a new knitter or crocheter, you might even be wondering why you need stitch markers. Stitch markers can be used for all sorts of things, depending on the project you’re working on. They can bre really helpful when trying to keep track of stitch counts. Do you lose your count when your significant other or your kids interrupt your knitting? Try put stitch markers every 20 or 25 stitches, so it’s easier to keep track of your counting. If you’re knitting a complicated lace or cable pattern, stitch markers are invaluable in keeping track of repeats so you remember exactly where you are in your pattern, especially if you have to set your project down before finishing a row. Progress keepers work great for this too, so you don’t have to keep going back and reading your knitting to figure out how many repeats you’ve already done. Just add a stitch marker each time you complete an increase or decrease row, and you’ll be good to go! Need to pick up a lot of stitches or make a button band? If you’re crocheting a long chain, you can also insert stitch markers every few stitches to keep track of how many you have a lot easier, so you aren’t wasting time and constantly having to go back to count them.
