Stitch Markers
Designed and crafted in-house
When you’re knitting or crocheting, the right tools matter. It’s something most dedicated fiber artists learn early on. The right yarn can make or break a project. And of course, it’s not near as fun to craft if you’re using materials you don’t enjoy working with. So why not make sure all the tools you’re using are tools you enjoy working with?
Cute Stitch Markers
Sure, you could use any old thing for a stitch marker, but where would the fun in that be? Every time you come to a stitch marker, you should enjoy seeing it, just as much as you enjoy the yarn and pattern you’re working on. While stitch markers are necessary tools, that doesn’t mean they have to be bland. They can be fun and functional!
If you’re a new knitter or crocheter, you might even be wondering why you need stitch markers. Stitch markers can be used for all sorts of things, depending on the project you’re working on. They can bre really helpful when trying to keep track of stitch counts. Do you lose your count when your significant other or your kids interrupt your knitting? Try put stitch markers every 20 or 25 stitches, so it’s easier to keep track of your counting. If you’re knitting a complicated lace or cable pattern, stitch markers are invaluable in keeping track of repeats so you remember exactly where you are in your pattern, especially if you have to set your project down before finishing a row. And if you’re knitting projects in the round, you definitely need a stitch marker to mark where the beginning is! It’s also handy if you’re knitting in the round to have a different stitch marker to mark the beginning of the round, versus pattern repeats. You don’t want to worry about getting confused and making a mistake because all of your stitch markers look exactly alike! Want to see how much progress you’ve made on that blanket or shawl that doesn’t seem to be growing, no matter how much you’ve knit or crocheted on it? Use a set of stitch markers with lobster clasps to mark your progress so you can see that it really is getting bigger! Working on a sweater? Use stitch markers to keep track of all those body shaping increases and decreases. Progress keepers work great for this too, so you don’t have to keep going back and reading your knitting to figure out how many repeats you’ve already done. Just add a stitch marker each time you complete an increase or decrease row, and you’ll be good to go! Need to pick up a lot of stitches or make a button band? Use your stitch markers to plan your placement!
Stitch markers are just as useful for those who crochet! Just like in knitting, using a stitch marker can help you to keep track of specific stitches in your pattern. Even more-so than knitting, crochet looks similar on both the wrong and right sides. Use a stitch marker to keep track of which side is which, so you’re sure to remember where you are in your pattern, and what side needs to be facing out or in once you’re putting on those finishing touches to your completed project. Need to set your project down? Use a stitch marker to keep your loop from unraveling when you remove your hook. If you’re crocheting a long chain, you can also insert stitch markers every few stitches to keep track of how many you have a lot easier, so you aren’t wasting time and constantly having to go back to count them. Progress keepers also help keep track of where your increases and decreases are when you’re crocheting projects with shaping in them. Crocheting a cute amigurumi design? Use stitch markers to mark where pieces need to be attached so no arm, leg, or eye goes mismatched!
